Series-Hybrid
The Chevrolet Volt is a series of plug-in hybrid on sale in 2011. The car runs on electric traction only. The strength of the internal combustion engine used solely to generate electricity, and part of a power.

The hybrid series looks promising and seems to be the most common form of hybrid vehicles in the near future.
Series hybrid vehicles, are driven only by electric motor. Unlike internal combustion piston engines, electric motors are energy efficient with exceptionally high ratio of weight to provide adequate torque over a wide speed range. Unlike combustion engines to electric motors coupled to the vehicle does not require a transmission between the engine and scroll wheels torque ratios but is dependant on level of car ownership. Transfers add weight, bulk and sap engine power. Mechanical automatic transmission change can be very complex. In a series hybrid system, the combustion engine drives an electric generator instead of directly to the wheels. The generator provides power for driving electric motors.
