These types of use of a compact electric motor in general (usually <20 kW) to provide additional features auto-stop/start and help provide energy, during acceleration and deceleration phase generated (also known as regenerative braking). The end purpose of these types of innovations is to drive performance without sacrificing great fuel economy.
On the road examples include Honda Civic Hybrid, Honda Insight, Mercedes Benz S400 BlueHYBRID, BMW 7-Series hybrid, General Motors with BAS Hybrid and Smart Fortwo micro hybrid.
