Powertrain Configurations of Hybrid Vehicles

Introduction

The Ford Escape Hybrid has a parallel drivetrain. In a parallel hybrid the electric motor and internal combustion engine are installed so they can feed either individually or in the vehicle group. In contrast to the configuration of the distribution of power normally only installed an electric motor. More commonly, the internal combustion engine of hybrid cars the electric motor and gearbox docked automatically controlled clutches. Although similar clutches are used in sports cars such as the Toyota FT-86 their integration into the drive train is completely different as they also have to work with an electric clutch. For driving electric clutch between the internal combustion engine while the clutch is open to the gearbox is fitted. Mode combustion engine and the engine running at the same speed.

Parallel Mild Hybrid

These types of use of a compact electric motor in general (usually <20 kW) to provide additional features auto-stop/start and help provide energy, during acceleration and deceleration phase generated (also known as regenerative braking). The end purpose of these types of innovations is to drive performance without sacrificing great fuel economy.

On the road examples include Honda Civic Hybrid, Honda Insight, Mercedes Benz S400 BlueHYBRID, BMW 7-Series hybrid, General Motors with BAS Hybrid and Smart Fortwo micro hybrid.

Power-Split-Parallel Hybrid Series

Typical installations include cars Toyota Prius, the Ford Escape and the Lexus LS600 Gs450.

In a power-split hybrid drive train has two electric motors. An electric motor and an internal combustion engine. The power of these two engines can be shared to drive the wheels via a power splitter, which is a simple set of planetary gears. The ratio may be 000 to 100% for the combustion engine, or 0-100% for the electric motor, or something between them, such as 40% to 60% and an electric motor for the engine combustion. It’s a surprising level for this unique car, the electric motor can function as a generator charging the batteries.

On the road, the primary source of energy is the internal combustion engine, when maximum power is required, for example, to move, electric motors are used to help maximize the power available for a short period, giving the effect of having a larger engine that actually installed. In most applications, the engine shuts off when the car is stopped to reduce emissions from the sidewalk.

Series-Hybrid

The Chevrolet Volt is a series of plug-in hybrid on sale in 2011. The car runs on electric traction only. The strength of the internal combustion engine used solely to generate electricity, and part of a power.

Ford Escape plug-in hybrid or hybrid.Series-series have also been mentioned as Extended Range Electric Vehicles and Range-Extended Electric Vehicle (Yerevan / Reeves) and this is something that can be discussed with a certified hybrid dealer but the wide spread can be achieved with any serial or parallel hybrid designs. The hybrid series looks promising and seems to be the most common form of hybrid vehicles in the near future.

Series hybrid vehicles, are driven only by electric motor. Unlike internal combustion piston engines, electric motors are energy efficient with exceptionally high ratio of weight to provide adequate torque over a wide speed range. Unlike combustion engines to electric motors coupled to the vehicle does not require a transmission between the engine and scroll wheels torque ratios but is dependant on level of car ownership. Transfers add weight, bulk and sap engine power. Mechanical automatic transmission change can be very complex. In a series hybrid system, the combustion engine drives an electric generator instead of directly to the wheels. The generator provides power for driving electric motors. Finally, a simple series-hybrid, the vehicle is driven by an electric motor generator provides electricity.

This provision is not new is common in diesel-electric locomotives and ships. Ferdinand Porsche uses this configuration in the early 20th century racing cars, effectively inventing the arrangement in series hybrid. Porsche name system, mixed system. A bucket wheel motor system, with a motor in each of the two front wheels were used, setting speed records. This agreement refers to how often a power transmission, generator and electric motor driving a mechanical transmission replaced. The vehicle can not move unless the internal combustion engine was running.

The program installation was never proved to be suitable for the production of cars can not synchronize with the electric motors driving the power generator, resulting in greater fuel consumption. The technology has reached, with modern management information systems to optimize engine generator running to match the power required for traction. The electric motors have increased considerably smaller, lighter and more efficient over the years. These developments have the advantage in power transmission in normal operation, more than a conventional internal combustion engine and automatic transmission mechanic. One advantage is the way softer progressive ratio unchanged stepped gears.
